Lesson 1 - Overview
Question 1
Who Has the Holy Spirit?
Before we start talking about the Fruit of the Spirit, we need to ask, "Who has the Holy Spirit?" Let's look at several verses in the Bible to help us answer that question.
"On the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried out, saying, "If anyone thirsts, let him come to Me and drink. He who believes in Me, as the Scripture has said, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water." [Then John adds this commentary] But this He spoke concerning the Spirit, whom those believing in Him would receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." John 7:37-39 (NKJV)
Those who believe in Him would receive the Holy Spirit. We need to start with the Gospel to understand who it is that we are believing.
Let's define the Gospel: 1 Corinthians 15:1-4
"Moreover, brethren, I declare to you the gospel which I preached to you, which also you received and in which you stand, by which also you are saved, if you hold fast that word which I preached to you—unless you believed in vain. For I delivered to you first of all that which I also received: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures," 1 Corinthians 15:1-4 (NKJV)
