Lesson 1 - Overview

Introduction

Greetings friend,
My name is Bill Miller; I’ll be walking with you through the 13 lessons in this course, and I’m praying that the Holy Spirit will show you how being crucified to Jesus Christ will bring about the fruit of the Spirit in your life.
My church asked me to teach the Adult Sunday School class. These lessons came out of my time of study for those classes. I have been a Christian for over 50 years and have read many times over those years the fruit of the Spirit there in Galatians 5.
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.” (Galatians 5:22-23 NKJV)
But I never studied these verses in the context of the Gospel, Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. Come with me as we study the fruit of the Spirit here at the foot of the Cross. As you look up and consider Jesus, you will begin to see Jesus living and dying with these qualities in His life. My prayer is that you will also be transformed into that same image of our Lord.
“But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 3:18 NKJV)
The lessons were designed to be completed one per day. If you need to take more time - this is okay. I desire that you will be in God's word daily and finish this course with a new understanding of the power of the Gospel, working itself out in the Fruit of the Spirit. It is best to take your time so that you have the opportunity to assimilate the truths and apply them to your life. Be thoughtful about your answers. Try not to give one word or one-sentence answers.
As we begin, we will cover these four areas in this lesson:
  • Who has the Holy Spirit?
  • How do we receive the Holy Spirit?
  • Compare and contrast works of the flesh and the fruit of the Spirit:
  • What is our only hope?
