Lesson 4 The Gospel–One Message With Two Parts–The Resurrection
Questions 7,8,9,10, and 11
Yes, we must consider ourselves dead to sin and alive to God through the blood of Christ! Jesus died to sin and lives to God through the resurrection from the dead. Friend, the Christian life is to follow Jesus with our cross held in hand, considering ourselves dead to sin. “For one who has died has been set free from sin” (Romans 6:7). We are dead to those sins that held us captive. Dead to the slavery of sin. Dead to the fear of sin. Dead to the fear of death itself because we now live to God.
"If then you have been raised with Christ, seek the things that are above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. 2 Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth. 3 For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God." Colossians 3:1-3 ESV
Because we have been raised with Jesus we now have power in our new lives as new creations (2 Corinthians 5:17) to “seek the things that are above.” The gospel has given us the power to do this. The Spirit enables us to do this now through Christ’ death and resurrection! We now have the power within us as new creations to “set our minds on things that are above” instead of our former lives when all we could do, as a result of our fallen nature, was set our minds “on things that are on earth.” Now our minds have been renewed and changed. Our very nature has changed. Our hearts have changed because we have now experienced the power of the gospel in our lives.
"In him also you were circumcised with a circumcision made without hands, by putting off the body of the flesh, by the circumcision of Christ, 12 having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through faith in the powerful working of God, who raised him from the dead." Colossians 2:11-12 ESV

"having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope to which he has called you, what are the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places" Ephesians 1:18-20 ESV

At the cross, our ”hearts were enlightened” so that we ”would know” the hope we have in Christ. The riches of his glorious inheritance. The power we have in Christ. The power of His resurrection for those ”who believe” the message of Christ! This ”immeasurable great power,” the same power that raised Jesus from the grave and all the way into heaven where He is seated at God’s right hand and His work completed.
