Lesson 4 The Gospel–One Message With Two Parts–The Resurrection

Questions 5 and 6

Friend, because Jesus rose from the dead, He can never die again! Death no longer has dominion over Him. Now, “if we have died with Christ” we have followed Jesus to the cross, to the grave and have now been raised up with Him into eternity where we will never die again! This also means that death no longer has dominion over us. We have been raised! Not only is He risen, but we have risen with Him. We were rescued and redeemed through Jesus’ shed blood on the cross, and now we are risen and given new life in Him.
"For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God." Romans 6:10 ESV

Question 5: When Jesus was hanging on the cross what did He “die to,” and who does He “live to” according to Romans 6:10?

Jesus died to sin! He became sin and then sin was judged in His flesh (Romans 8:3; 2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus died once! Then He “entered once for all into the Most Holy place, not by means of the blood of goats and calves but by means of his own blood, thus securing an eternal redemption” (Hebrews 9:12).
"Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, 15 and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery." Hebrews 2:14-15 ESV
"So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." Romans 6:11

Question 6: As believers in Jesus Christ, that is, in His death for the forgiveness of sins, His burial and resurrection, what “must” we consider ourselves “dead to” and “alive to” according to Romans 6:11?
