Lesson 3 Resting In Christ

Questions 6 and 7

Friend, many have a “zeal for God” but might be missing the knowledge of God’s righteousness, as found in the gospel message. These Jews had a lack of understanding of the work of the cross and were attempting to establish their own righteousness through law keeping.
Now please notice what happens when we are lacking in our understanding of the gospel.
"For, being ignorant of the righteousness of God, and seeking to establish their own, they did not submit to God's righteousness." Romans 10:3 ESV

Question 6: According to Romans 10:3 what two things happen when we are ignorant of the message of the gospel?

Yes, ignorance of the “righteousness of God” found in the gospel of Jesus Christ causes many to seek a righteousness of their own because they did not submit to God’s righteousness. Zeal alone isn’t enough, and in fact, could be the very thing keeping many from being saved and sanctified. They may not be hearing the message of the cross and combining it with faith in Jesus Christ.
It is critical to share the gospel in living color. That is, to share it over and over from various passages of God's Word. To share the message of the cross and call others to look and see, look, and believe. There isn’t another message that needs to be shared from our churches. We have been given the gospel message that is of “first importance.” When preached, taught, shared, and lived, we are fulfilling the command to “make disciples“ in the church and in the world, giving the only message with power to change anyone who hears and believes!
"How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? 15 And how are they to preach unless they are sent? As it is written, “How beautiful are the feet of those who preach the good news!” Romans 10: 14-15 ESV
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek." Romans 1:16 ESV

Peter writes, "I am so impressed with the simplicity, sincerity, and profound nature of this material. Very well done! Please pass this along to others in this ministry. I am excited to see us use this as a tool to equip our people and train them in righteousness."
Larry writes, "That the Gospel is simple in that it is the finished work of Christ on the cross that saves us from our sin. Not programs or keeping the law or does and don't. It is by faith alone in Jesus Christ and Him being made a curse and satisfying the penalty that was against me by dying on the cross and taking my sin to the grave."
