Lesson 4 The Gospel–One Message With Two Parts–The Resurrection
Questions 1 and 2
We’re so thankful to have you back today studying the gospel of Jesus Christ with us.
The gospel is the one message Jesus gave to us, to “Go and make disciples” with. This message must be preached and taught in the church then taken into the world to show everyone that Jesus died to forgive their sins, free them from their slavery to sin and raise them up from the grave. We’ve seen that we receive “by faith” all that Jesus accomplished while on the cross.
Today, we want to talk about the resurrection and I am excited to be able to celebrate this with you! I hope you’re excited about the gospel and the new life we have in Jesus because of His death, burial and resurrection. The gospel is the very reason the church exists today.
The “good news” of the gospel is one message with two parts:
The death
The resurrection
"For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his." Romans 6:5 ESV
Notice from the passage below, the results of uniting, by faith, with Christ in His death:
"For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we shall certainly be united with him in a resurrection like his. 6 We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin. 7 For one who has died has been set free from sin." Romans 6:5-7
Question 2: When Jesus died on the cross our “old self” was crucified with Christ. According to Romans 6:6, what is the twofold blessing of being crucified with Christ?
