The woman at the well simply needed to ask, and Jesus would give living water. He said, “whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” This is really good news because it means we don’t have to “qualify” or somehow “earn” it.
Jesus was speaking to a woman, and in those days that was not acceptable as women were considered “second class” to men. This is very wrong, of course, but that’s the way it was in the country at that time.
Further, Jesus was a Jew and the woman was a “Samaritan”, and normally the Jews didn’t have anything to do with Samaritans, considering them “half-breeds” and not of the “chosen race.” Again, wrong thinking, but that’s how things were.
The third strike against this woman is that she had been immoral. She had committed adultery, been with numerous men, and this was not acceptable according to God’s law. This would have disqualified her had the living water been something she had to earn.
And yet here was Jesus offering her this gift, this living water.
Jesus said, “whoever drinks the water I give…” This means anyone. It means you and it means me. It doesn’t matter what we’ve done, what happened in our past, what “secrets” we might have in our lives, or what we’ve believed or thought in the past.
Jesus said, “Whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst.” This is unlike gaming, youtube videos, social media or media addiction in general. What Jesus has to give actually quenches our thirst, provides true and lasting satisfaction forever!
Tomorrow we want to discover what this “living water” is. But for now I want to ask you a question: you no doubt remember that the woman would have received living water just by asking for it. The question I have for you is this:
Have you asked Jesus for living water?
You’ve seen that what you’ve been turning to hasn’t satisfied and that you keep coming back to it again and again but, like saltwater, it really doesn’t satisfy you. Do you see your need for the “living water”? This “living water” is a personal gift for you.
Question 5. Here is a place to acknowledge that what you’ve been doing doesn’t satisfy, and to simply ask Jesus for living water. This is just between you and Jesus, but if you want to write out your prayer to Him here your mentor will pray with you.

Question 6. How are you doing today? Please share any prayer requests that you have, as our mentors love to pray for and with students.
