Hello again and welcome. So nice to see you back on this 8th lesson.
Today we want to make another comparison, just as Jesus made when speaking with the woman at the well in John chapter 4. He said, “whoever drinks this water will thirst again, but whoever drinks the water I give Him will never thirst” (John 4:13-14).
It’s important to make comparisons like this so that we can understand what is lacking in media addiction and what God provides when we come to believe in Jesus Christ. These comparisons are usually very clear: “thirst again…never thirst.”
Before beginning our study today, I want to make clear that, as I’ve said in previous lessons, there is absolutely nothing wrong with using media. There should be no bad feelings about normal media usage; that is, using it in a way that is beneficial, that does not hurt ourselves or others, and that does not waste time.
It is only using media in a damaging way, a way that harms us spiritually or that strains relationships, or using it in a way that it was not designed for; these are the ways that media usage becomes unhelpful or even damaging.
So with that in mind, let’s study the following passage. This time, I’m going to ask you to find the comparisons in the passage, and see if you can bring out some application to your own life in what you read. Here it is:
Jeremiah 2:11-13 NIV Has a nation ever changed its gods? (Yet they are not gods at all.) But my people have exchanged their glorious God for worthless idols. (12) Be appalled at this, you heavens, and shudder with great horror," declares the LORD. (13) "My people have committed two sins: They have forsaken me, the spring of living water, and have dug their own cisterns, broken cisterns that cannot hold water.
Question 1. In Jeremiah 2:11-13, what is the comparison and what application can you find with media addiction?

Elisabeth writes, "glorious God vs. worthless idols...spring of living water vs. broken cisterns. Using media in the wrong way is giving time and energy to a worthless idol."
