So how do we experience this amazing, transcendent, joyful, out-of-this-world, stronger-than-a-hurricane and sweeter-than-wine time with Jesus?
We’ve already talked about getting alone with Jesus. But what exactly do we do? That’s what I want to discuss with you during the next couple of lessons. And when we’re done, you will have the key that will unlock the entire Bible, and it will open up to you in a way so that Jesus can flood your heart with fullness of joy, a joy that is unspeakable and full of glory (see 1 Peter 1:8).
Here’s the way to have all this happen:
Ask God to reveal the gospel to you in His Word, then believe it when you read it. This might seem simple but it’s the key to unlocking the entire Bible, having a deep and powerful relationship with God, and finding true acceptance, real love, deep peace, profound joy and eternal pleasures!
For the next couple of lessons, we’re going to go on a treasure hunt, looking for the gospel, and finding it in surprise places. Then we’re going to compare what we find with what we experienced in media. I think you’ll see that the ‘hurricane’ love and ‘ocean deep’ love of Jesus are better than anything you’ve ever encountered in your entire life!
But before we do, it’s really important that we are clear as to what the gospel is. The gospel is very specific, so because of how important this is, let’s close out our time today with the definition of the gospel, and then beginning tomorrow we’ll go on that treasure hunt I promised you.
Please read the following passage and answer the questions below:
1 Corinthians 15:1-6 NLT Let me now remind you, dear brothers and sisters, of the Good News I preached to you before. You welcomed it then, and you still stand firm in it. (2) It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place. (3) I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me. Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. (4) He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, just as the Scriptures said. (5) He was seen by Peter and then by the Twelve. (6) After that, he was seen by more than 500 of his followers at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.
Question 4. From 1 Corinthians 15:1-6 what is the gospel (“good news”)?
