Lesson 11 Jesus is Better Than Anything
Question 5
The gospel, meaning good news, is very specific. It has just two points. Here they are:
Think of how good this good news really is. Jesus, Who was God from all eternity, chose to come to this earth, live in our place, suffer for our sins and die to forgive us. Our sins are those ways in which we have broken God’s Law (“don’t steal, don’t lie, don’t murder, don’t lust”, etc.). So Jesus paid for our wrongs, He died in our place.
This means that you, if you are a believer, have no more guilt, no matter what you’ve done. You do not need to have any shame. Jesus has removed your sin from you by taking it on Himself and dying under the guilt of it. He has now made you righteous by taking away your sin. Isn’t that wonderful?
Jesus did not stay dead, He rose from the dead and now is alive. He was seen by hundreds of people as proof.
Think of what this means:
It means that Jesus’ payment for your sins was accepted by God the Father, otherwise Jesus would still be dead paying for them.
It means that you, as a believer, will now live forever because your sin has been dealt with and forgiven.
It means that you can come into God’s presence freely, you can access all of heaven, go right to God the Father and live forever with Him.
And did you notice that these two points of the gospel are “according to the Scriptures?” This means that the entire Old Testament (written before Jesus was born) tells us this same message in stories, in clear statements, in prophecies, and in poems.
This is the treasure that we are going to begin hunting for tomorrow. And as we do, I think you’ll begin to experience Jesus in such a powerful way that it will make your previous media usage seem quite empty, in contrast to the power and love and sweetness and joy you’ll find in Jesus.
Yes, Jesus, Your love is sweeter than wine. And it’s better than anything in this world!
Question 5. Are you looking forward to the treasure hunt? What are your thoughts?
