Lesson 12 Jesus Is Thoroughly Addicting
Questions 2 and 3
Today we’re going to go on a short treasure hunt. We’re going to look at a story and see if Jesus will reveal Himself to us as the Treasure in the passage. We’ll do a few more of these treasure hunts in the upcoming days because I want you to see that they can become so addicting. There are literally thousands of places in the Bible to see Jesus, so let’s begin.
Please read the following passage and answer the questions below:
Genesis 3:1-6 NIV Now the serpent was more crafty than any of the wild animals the LORD God had made. He said to the woman, "Did God really say, 'You must not eat from any tree in the garden'?" (2) The woman said to the serpent, "We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden, (3) but God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.'" (4) "You will not certainly die," the serpent said to the woman. (5) "For God knows that when you eat from it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil." (6) When the woman saw that the fruit of the tree was good for food and pleasing to the eye, and also desirable for gaining wisdom, she took some and ate it. She also gave some to her husband, who was with her, and he ate it.
Question 2. This is the story of when Satan tempted Adam and Eve. According to Genesis 3:6, how did the forbidden fruit look to them?

Yes, Satan has ways of making that which is forbidden look delicious. It was “pleasing to the eye”, it looked beautiful. It was “desirable for gaining wisdom”, so Satan’s temptations always make us think we’re getting something that will make us smarter, more intelligent, even wise.
So they ate the forbidden fruit in direct disobedience to God. God had said that if they ever disobeyed Him and ate the forbidden fruit they would die (Genesis 2:16-17). “The wages of sin is death” (Romans 6:23) so they were now under the death sentence. Notice what they did:
Genesis 3:7-8 NIV Then the eyes of both of them were opened, and they realized they were naked; so they sewed fig leaves together and made coverings for themselves. (8) Then the man and his wife heard the sound of the LORD God as he was walking in the garden in the cool of the day, and they hid from the LORD God among the trees of the garden.
Question 3. What do you think they were trying to do when they sewed fig leaves together for a covering?
