Lesson 3 Purposes for Slavery to Sin: That We Might Become Broken and Humbled
Question 5
God answered David's prayer at the cross, by opening a fountain of cleansing for all to come and wash. “On that day a fountain will be opened for the dynasty of David and for the people of Jerusalem, a fountain to cleanse them from all their sins and impurity" (Zechariah 13:1).
Look up to Jesus at the cross just now; do you see Him cleansing you from sin, washing away your pollution in His blood, and making you whiter than snow? This is what happened for every believer.
In Isaiah chapter 1, God invites people to reason with Him. He says:
Isaiah 1:18 ESV “Come now, let us reason together, says the LORD: though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they are red like crimson, they shall become like wool.”
In Isaiah 1:18 God is inviting you to go to the cross of Jesus Christ and there reason with Him over your sins.
You argue that you are unclean and defiled. God shows you Jesus washing your scarlet sins in His red blood (Isaiah 1:18).
You reason that you are dirty; God shows you that the cross has made you white as snow (Isaiah 1:18).
You state that your sin has made you guilty and ashamed; God says that the cross has made you holy and righteous (Colossians 1:22).
You make the case that your impurity has covered you in dark splotches, God tells you that Jesus wiped all your blemishes clean (Colossians 1:22).
You argue that your sins now open you to all the accusation of Satan and that you always hear those accusations in your mind. God tells you that Jesus took your accusation and your condemnation, and now you are free from both (Colossians 1:22, Romans 8:1).
21 Once you were alienated from God and were enemies in your minds because of your evil behavior. 22 But now he has reconciled you by Christ's physical body through death to present you holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation. Colossians 1:21-22
Learn to reason with God at the cross, accepting His reasoning, not your own.
Psalms 51:8-13 ESV (8) Let me hear joy and gladness; let the bones you have crushed rejoice. (9) Hide your face from my sins and blot out all my iniquity. (10) Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. (11) Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. (12) Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me. (13) Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you.
