Lesson 7 Washing at the Cross Produces Humility and Sets us Free
Questions 6
Consider this with me for a moment: Jesus valued you above Himself! This is evidenced by the fact that He left His home in Heaven, came to this earth, took on a human body and sacrificed Himself on a criminal’s cross to save you and set you free. Friend, He valued you more than His own life! He considered your interests more important than His own! He loved you unto death! Have you really believed this?
It's true! Jesus saw you in need, enslaved to impurity, condemned by the Law, awaiting certain death. And so He purposely gave up His throne in heaven, came to earth as a man, took on the nature of a servant and suffered punishment and death in your place. He was looking to the interest of His Father who loved you, and He was looking to your interest in needing to be rescued, ransomed and set free.
Jesus came from heaven to earth for you. God became Man for you. The most important Being became nothing for you. The King became a Servant for you. The Servant was willingly treated as a criminal for you. The Author of Life died on a cross for you.
Do you see how Jesus lowered Himself further with each step? How He descended lower and lower until He sacrificed His own life to ransom you from sin and death? The truth is that Jesus came down to raise you up out of the grave of pornography and sexual impurity and take you to heaven (Colossians 3:1).
And what this passage in Philippians 2 says is that Jesus’ continual lowering of Himself, clear into the grave, to raise you to the heights of heaven, is the very definition of humility.
