Welcome back, we’re glad you’re here and look forward to studying and learning with you today.
When Jesus was here on earth, He lived perfectly. He was holy and lived righteously, doing what was good and right to all people, every day of His life.
And yet He was judged, condemned and crucified, by His own choice. He said, “For this reason the Father loves me, because I lay down my life that I may take it up again. (18) No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down, and I have authority to take it up again. This charge I have received from my Father” (John 10:17-18 NIV).
Out of love in His heart, the desire to obey His Father and the will to save everyone the Father had given Him, Jesus chose to die. He was willingly judged, condemned and crucified so that we would be saved and set free.
There is only one way to deal with sin, friend, and God showed us the road in the gospel. Jesus “became sin for us” (2 Corinthians 5:21), and He was judged, condemned and crucified. That is how God deals with sin, and that is how we must deal with sin. We must War against our flesh and put it to death (spiritually), by the power of God’s Spirit.
Question 1. Are you warring against your flesh daily?
The world upholds a different approach to dealing with what they would consider destructive behavior (we know it as sin). They teach ideas such as: look for a distraction when you are tempted, visualize something sad or funny when tempted, or go for a jog whenever you are tempted. Wean yourself off sin slowly.
Question 2. What are some of the ways that you have been taught to deal with sin up until now?

The world’s way of dealing with sin is ineffective. But the Bible teaches us to put sin to death! We are to judge it, condemn it and crucify it.
Colossians 3:3-5 ESV For you have died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (4) When Christ who is your life appears, then you also will appear with him in glory. (5) Put to death therefore what is earthly in you: sexual immorality, impurity, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry.
Question 4. According to Colossians 3:3-4 what is the reason you are to put to death impurity in your life?
