The entire Bible is written to tell one story, the gospel, and in this passage, we are seeing the good news that belongs to all believers. It shows us the intimate connection that all believers have with Jesus.
Look at the cross of Jesus Christ, and you will see that He was torn to pieces, He was injured and wounded and put to death (Hosea 6:1). After two days, on the third day, He was raised from the dead and restored to live in God’s presence forever (Hosea 6:2).
And, friend, we were in Christ on the cross (Romans 6:6), and we were raised with Him from the dead (Colossians 3:1), so now we can say, “He has torn us to pieces, but He will heal us. He has injured us but He will bind up our wounds. After two days He will revive us; on the third day He will restore us, that we may live in His presence.”
This truth is not merely about the nation of Israel in their time of rebellion and disobedience, and their subsequent restoration as a nation; no, it is about us as believers, experiencing the power of the cross together, and being raised up from our tomb of sin and being restored to live in the presence of God.
God raised Jesus from the dead on the third day and He raised you and me from the dead in Him!
Notice how often the Old Testament pictures new life on the third day:
When the world was first created, it was in darkness, empty, and submerged under the water. On the third day, the earth was raised up out of the water and began producing fruit.
Abraham and Isaac traveled on a three-day journey to a particular mountain. Abraham put the wood of the sacrifice on his son, Isaac, who carried the wood up the hill toward his death. But God intervened, and Abraham received Isaac back “as from the dead,” on the third day.
Jonah was taken from the wood of the boat and thrown into the deep while wearing a crown of thorns. And there he remained until the third day when he was brought up from the watery grave.
And here in Hosea chapter 6 again we see healing, restoration, and new life coming on the third day.
It might seem that the things that need to be done in your life or your marriage or to extract you from sin’s death grip are impossible to you right now. It might seem that you need a miracle of resurrection power.
Well, this is what God does!
Ephesians 1:19-20 ESV and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might (20) that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places,
Question 3. God has immeasurably great power for you as a believer (Ephesians 1:19). According to Ephesians 1:20, to what is that power compared?
