This he set aside, nailing it to the cross.

We experience new life through the forgiveness of sins. God “made us alive together with Him, having forgiven us all our trespasses.” It was sin that separated you from God and disconnected you from the Head (Colossians 2:19), and to re-establish that connection something had to be done about your sins; they had to be forgiven and removed.
At the cross, God took your sins away from you and put them on His Son, who then died under the penalty of sin, thereby forgiving you and freeing you entirely from any charge of wrongdoing.
Psalms 103:2-4 NIV Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all his benefits— (3) who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases, (4) who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion,
Acts 13:39 ESV and by him everyone who believes is freed from everything from which you could not be freed by the law of Moses.
