We must remember that we are in a war every day of our lives. This time on earth is never one of rest and ease but rather one of fighting against and overcoming Satan, and continual warring against our flesh.
1 John 2:14 (NIV) 14 I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.
Colossians 3:5-8 (NIV) Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6 Because of these, the wrath of God is coming. 7 You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8 But now you must also rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
It is essential that we are engaged every day in the battle, and that we do not become lazy in our fight. David was lounging on his couch “at the time when kings go off to war” (2 Samuel 11:1), and we know the end of that story, how he fell to sexual immorality and murder. We must not lounge on the couch when we should engage in the war.
We are called to fight like a soldier, suffering with Jesus as we die daily to our flesh, refusing to be distracted from our mission of seeing the cross, living the cross and preaching the cross:
2 Timothy 2:3-4 (NIV) Join with me in suffering, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus. 4 No one serving as a soldier gets entangled in civilian affairs, but rather tries to please his commanding officer.

Question 2. Are you aware that your life is a battle, and that you must be fighting every day against the devil and your own evil desires?
