Lesson 1: Victory and Rest

Question 3

God appointed Joshua to be the new leader after Moses died. The name Joshua means “the Lord saves”. Joshua would go on to lead God’s people into the promised Land, and save them from all their enemies: the Hittites, Amorites, Jebusites, Hivites, and many others.
Likewise, the Greek name “Jesus” comes from the Hebrew word “Joshua”, and it tells us clearly what Jesus came to do: Jesus saves! He saves from selfishness of all kinds, saves from drugs and alcohol, saves from pornography, saves from lying and lusting, saves from depression and discouragement, saves from all the devil’s snares.
Jesus came to die on the cross in order to rescue us from these very things, to save us from our sins, save us from condemnation and save us from God’s wrath.
Matthew 1:21 (NCV) She will give birth to a son, and you will name him Jesus (Yeshua), because he will save his people from their sins.
Romans 5:9 (NIV) Since we have now been justified by his blood, how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him!
Acts 4:12 (NCV) Jesus is the only One who can save people. No one else in the world is able to save us."
Luke 19:10 (NCV) The Son of Man came to find lost people and save them."

Kelly writes, "The theme  of the video is the mercy of Jesus in coming to save us. I love how the song keep  saying  “free at last”  Jesus came to set me free not only from the guilt and condemnation of sin but from its power and every trial and storm in my life. Jesus came to save me: and He is saving me and will save me when comes back to take me to be with Him in eternity. This is mercy going before me, going behind me and pouring all over me."
Amanda writes, "The theme of this song is that Jesus Saves. I have experienced this in my own life. First, I learned as a young girl that I was a sinner and that I must ask Jesus in my heart to save me from my sins so that I wouldn't have to go to hell. Later, I learned about a home in heaven and many other benefits for those who have accepted Jesus and been saved. Since SCF I have learned that we are saved daily by going to the cross and preaching the gospel to ourselves. The Gospel in not just a one stop, ticket out of hell, but is a continuous sanctuary, a refuge from the things that keep us bound."
