Lesson 1 Heart Change

Questions 1 and 2

God has given me a battle plan for today, to include eating three normal meals and to exercise by hiking for an hour. These days my meals are about half the portion size that I used to eat. You will learn about making your plan on Day 6 of this course. In the meantime, we encourage you to seek the Lord for a heart change in how you eat and exercise.
Greetings friend,
My name is Mike Cleveland, and as I’m walking with you through these lessons, I’m praying that Jesus Christ will set you free. “If the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed!” (John 8:36).
The study works best if you complete one lesson per day. Please take your time so that you have the opportunity to assimilate the truths and apply them to your life. Be thoughtful about your answers.
As you read in the introduction, I spent many years trapped in a cycle of indulging my flesh, gaining weight, starting a new diet or exercise program, losing weight, growing weary or stressed and turning to food for comfort, gaining weight, etc. I struggled with continuous eating, emotional eating, eating to fill a spiritual void. I used all kinds of excuses for why the struggle persisted, such as the fact that I have a stressful job which involves lots of travel plus I had the demands of a large family and ministry work. I lived this way for many years of my life!

Question 1. How about you? What has your own struggle been like? Please share here:

It is my joy to share that several years ago God reached my heart and changed my life, setting me free from all forms of gluttony, and I’ve been free since. How did it happen?
God changed my heart, first and foremost just as He promised in His Word. God promised to change His people’s hearts to have new desires and to move them to follow Him. We can see this in the New Covenant promise of Ezekiel 36:
“I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh. 27 And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.” Ezekiel 36:26-27 (NIV)

Question 2. What is God’s promise as recorded in Ezekiel 36:26-27?
