Lesson 7 The Cross Cleanses Us

Questions 1 and 2

Hey, friend, welcome back!
We are continuing our study of washing at the cross, walking by the Spirit, and warring against our flesh to lose weight and gain freedom in Christ. In our last lesson, we studied about making war against the lust of our flesh, and in this lesson, we will explore in more detail how we war against our flesh by washing at the cross.
The attitude we need to develop toward overeating is one of war. We must cultivate a hatred for overeating of such magnitude that we want to hang it up on a cross, stab a sword into its side, and throw it away in a grave!
Our sin has to die, not merely be "managed." We can't "manage" sin any more than we could manage an army of termites eating away at our home's foundation. No, we don't manage termites, we exterminate them.
Hopefully, in the last lesson, you sought the Lord for His divine battle plan to crucify your lusts. You'll notice I did not put my plan at the beginning of this lesson because you will want to follow the plan that God gives specifically to you each day.

Question 1. What plan did God give you for today regarding eating and exercising for His glory? Please be specific.

Now it is time to implement your God-given battle strategy, and you'll need the spiritual motivation to do it. But where do we get this kind of "kill or be killed" attitude? Typically, we don't have it initially, for sin's pleasures are too recent, and the pictures in our minds feel too fresh and vivid.
But God can change our hearts! Oh, yes, He can! If God starts working on us, eventually we will be sick of gluttony. Yes, God can make this change as God is a consuming fire (Deuteronomy 9:3) and a jealous God (Exodus 20:4-5).
God doesn’t want His children anywhere near gluttony and laziness. The cross is proof that He will go to any length to save you, rescue you, and set you free. Jesus will do anything, bridge the gap from heaven to earth if need be, nail Himself to the cross and bleed out, then go to the grave and back for you! He loves you and is committed to extracting you from sin’s grip, even if it costs Him His own life’s blood!
So, how does He do this? How does He take someone like me, who loved overeating food, lived for the thrill of it, and cause my heart to hate it, want to crucify it, and bury it? How in the world does this happen?
I will answer this question, but first, let me ask you a question:

Question 2. Are you seeking the Lord for a heart change? Please share:

Wende senses some fear in total surrender, but has the attitude that always leads to freedom. She writes, "I have had the mindset of managing rather than exterminating my sin. I offer my heart completely right now. This is scary. Take me, take my heart, mold me according to YOUR will."
