Lesson 4 The Gospel–One Message With Two Parts–The Resurrection
Questions 3 and 4
Friend, this is so exciting to see that Jesus died on the cross to remove our sins and Jesus paid our death sentence to do it! Friend, He bore your sins! He was struck but you were healed. He was rejected and sent to die both by men and His Father, but you were accepted and brought near by His blood.
First blessing listed in Romans 6:6: We have been “crucified with Christ” in order that our old man, our sinful nature would cease to exist! Our “body of sin” might be brought to NOTHING!” Think of it, your “body of sin” has been brought to nothing because Jesus’ body became sin and was ground down to nothing while hanging on the cross bleeding, as Jesus was gasping for air, yet silent like a lamb led to the slaughter. Your body of sin was paid for through His death on the cross, where you died with Him. Wow, doesn’t this make your heart desire to worship, be thankful and fill you with gratitude?
Second blessing listed in Romans 6:6: The other wonderful thing that happened at the cross is, captives were set free! “...so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.” The cross brings freedom from sin’s slavery! Prison doors were opened! Your old man was crucified, buried and has now risen with Christ so that the body of sin might be brought to nothing and that we would be set free from our SLAVERY to SIN! Now, this is something to celebrate! We should all be singing the Hallelujah chorus! We should all be running, dancing and singing for such a great salvation!
"For one who has died has been set free from sin." Romans 6:7 ESV
Question 3: According to the video above, why is it important that we “die with Christ” rather than attempt to work a 12 step program, go to recovery groups or pay thousands of dollars for therapy?
Do you see the incredible results of dying with Christ? The one who has died has been “set free from sin.” This is truly “Good News” for those who die with Christ. It doesn’t say that we “might be set free” or that we can “hope to be set free” or that “we will be in recovery for years.” NO, it says that the one who has died “has been set free from sin.” This is freedom! This is the message that brings good news to the heart of its hearer! This is what changes us from the inside out as the Spirit applies the gospel to the heart! Oh, friend, we are set free when we die with Christ, are buried in the tomb and raised with power to a new life!
"Now if we have died with Christ, we believe that we will also live with him. 9 We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus." Romans 6:8-11
Question 4: If we have “died with Christ”, we believe that we will also live with Him, but how can we live with Him according to Romans 6:9?
