Lesson 55 Washing at the Cross Leads to Worshipping the Lamb

Questions 4, 5 and 6

Notice how the Bible connects worship to the cross of Jesus Christ:
Revelation 5:1-4 ESV Then I saw in the right hand of him who was seated on the throne a scroll written within and on the back, sealed with seven seals. (2) And I saw a mighty angel proclaiming with a loud voice, “Who is worthy to open the scroll and break its seals?” (3) And no one in heaven or on earth or under the earth was able to open the scroll or to look into it, (4) and I began to weep loudly because no one was found worthy to open the scroll or to look into it.
A reading of the entirety of the Book of Revelation makes it clear that this “Scroll” that is sealed is “the Book of Life,” containing the names of all who have eternal life.

Question 4. What is John’s response when no one is found worthy to open the scroll?

John was deeply saddened, to the point of tears that no one was found worthy who could open the book of life. In essence, eternal life was a “sealed book,” closed up to all.
Often people get depressed at this same thought. They know death is just around the next corner, they know there is nothing that can be done about it, they know that life is fleeting and temporary and that with each passing day they come nearer death’s door. They feel trapped in their own body, and it makes them sad. John “wept loudly” at the thought of this, and sometimes you and I do, too.
But then notice that there was a solution:
Revelation 5:5-6 ESV And one of the elders said to me, “Weep no more; behold, the Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has conquered, so that he can open the scroll and its seven seals.” (6) And between the throne and the four living creatures and among the elders I saw a Lamb standing, as though it had been slain...

Question 5. In what form did John see “the Lion of the tribe of Judah”? “I saw a Lamb standing, “as though .”

John saw the Lion as “a Lamb” looking “as though it had been slain,” a clear reference to the cross.
